De Beers Group has streamlined its Building Forever sustainability strategy, replacing the 12 goals it established in 2020 with three overarching priorities for 2030, as reported in its Sustainability Report 2025 that was published this week.
The revised framework focuses on livelihoods, nature and climate, supported by what De Beers now describes as an “enduring commitment” to provenance. The move reflects a wider shift across the jewellery industry from expansive sustainability pledges towards fewer, more measurable goals tied to business operations.
Under the revised strategy, De Beers aims to support four jobs in surrounding communities for every position within its operations, secure three times more land for nature than it affects and reduce its carbon footprint by one third by 2030. In 2025, it supported 2.6 offsite jobs for every operational role, up from two in 2024, and said its activities supported more than 27,000 livelihoods across its producer countries.
Scope 1 and 2 emissions have fallen 14% since 2021, against the company’s science-based target to reduce these emissions by 42% by 2030. De Beers also manages more than 375,000 acres of conservation land and has committed $70 million to Botswana’s Diamonds for Development Fund.
