Bucherer is planning a CHF30 million overhaul of its flagship store on Schwanenplatz in Lucerne, according to documents submitted to the city’s planning authority.
The proposed redevelopment covers Bucherer’s premises at Schwanenplatz 5 and Ledergasse 4, with the retailer seeking permission for a total reconstruction of its sales floors from the first basement level to the third floor.
The application was lodged in late August and formally received by the City of Lucerne in September. The documents do not indicate that planning permission has yet been granted.
If approved, it represents a substantial reinvestment in the city where Carl Friedrich Bucherer and his wife Louise founded the business in 1888. Bucherer moved to Schwanenplatz during the following decades, and the site remains closely associated with the retailer’s identity.
