Hip-hop superstar 50 Cent’s eye-catching taste in jewellery took centre stage at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. Following performances from Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, the American rapper lit up the stadium in a supersized diamond necklace punctuated by his signature moniker and a gleaming diamond-encrusted watch.
No stranger to flaunting his latest extravagances to his 27.8 million followers on Instagram, 50 Cent’s love of bolder-the-better jewellery is nothing new. Throughout his career, the rapper has amassed an impressive collection of rare and expensive timepieces, including two head-turning designs by Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet.
Both watches showcase 50 Cent’s penchant for diamonds – one is created from 18K white gold and paved with 456 baguette-cut diamonds, set with a further 24 baguette cut stones, while the other comes crafted in 18K rose gold and fully diamond set with VS1 baguette-cut diamonds.
The rap star has also seen sporting designs from luxury sports watch brand Richard Mille, including the RM 57-01 Watch Tourbillon Jackie Chan. Made in collaboration with Hong Kong legend and martial arts actor Jackie Chan and limited to just 15 pieces, the timepiece features a statement dial, complete with a solid gold dragon and phoenix – two mythical beasts with strong symbolic meaning in Chinese culture. Created from 18K rose gold, these legendary figures inhabiting the interior of the movement are carved and incised entirely by hand and finished with the long and painstaking process of micro painting.
So, we know that 50 Cent is a big watch lover, but he also quite likes his bling. In 2019, the rapper dropped a cool $170,000 on a Panthère de Cartier ring. A creative signature for the French jeweller since 1914, the piece captures the panther in all its glory, dazzling in diamonds, white gold, emerald and onyx.
Aside from shopping at some of the most iconic luxury jewellery Maisons, 50 Cent has also commissioned pieces from some of hip-hop’s most trusted designers. This chain was crafted by celebrity jeweller Elliot Avianne of Avianne & Co for 50 Cent back in 2018 and features a bust of his late grandmother iced-out in white diamonds.
“This is my favourite piece of jewellery,” he wrote on Instagram. “I got this for my birthday. I have some really good friends. They put thought into things they get for me. My grandmother is my angel.”
A dip into 50 Cent’s jewellery box reveals a treasure trove of rare collector’s pieces and custom designs, courtesy of both big-name brands and independents.
