After 2021’s low-key, virtual ceremony, the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards were back ‘in real life’ in Santa Monica, California last night. Despite mounting anxiety regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the stars still put their best, most stylish feet forward and adorned themselves in galaxies of diamond jewellery to celebrate their peers once more. In a nod to Hollywood’s golden age, spectacular full-length couture gowns and classic white diamond jewellery were the order of the day at this years SAGB awards.
Lady Gaga looked every inch the silver screen goddess as she paired her showstopping white and silver Armani Privé column gown with the Schlumberger ‘Flowers and Leaves’ necklace in yellow gold, platinum and diamonds from Tiffany & Co.’s latest Blue Book High Jewellery collection. An 8-carat diamond ring and drop earrings from the New York jeweller completed her look perfectly.
Adding a modern twist to a classic silhouette, Kerry Washington opted to pair her dramatic neon yellow fishtail Celia Kritharioti gown with a handful of shimmering Messika diamonds. Outlander star Caitriona Balfe was equally eye-catching in scarlet Saint Laurent, finished with a white diamond choker, cuffs and ring by Van Cleef & Arpels.
The dopamine-dressing trend continued with plenty of cheerful pink dresses accessorised with handfuls of diamonds, too. Dame Helen Mirren, who picked up the SAG Life Achievement Award for her contribution to the industry, iced her sweet blush pink Prada gown with Harry Winston’s Secret Cluster diamond and pink sapphire earrings, plus a matching diamond bracelet and ring.
Her fellow nominee, Salma Hayek, also added Harry Winston earrings with over 16 carats of diamonds to her Marilyn Monroe-esque pink satin Gucci gown and lace gloves. Elsewhere, Arianna DeBose, who took home a trophy for her portrayal of Anita in the new adaptation of West Side Story, chose the Assana high jewellery necklace by De Beers with over 37 carats of diamonds to complement her hot pink Valentino couture dress. She also added two diamond rings, a bracelet with over 16 carats of diamonds and sleek stud earrings to complete her look.
Timeless black dresses and diamonds had their moment, too. Award presenter, Reese Witherspoon, who was also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for her role in The Morning Show, finished her black Schiaparelli dress with a high jewellery diamond and platinum necklace by Cartier, along with a diamond, sapphire, onyx, and chalcedony ring by the Parisian jeweller.
Elegant in Giorgio Armani, SAG-nominee Cate Blanchett chose a one-of-a-kind pair of white diamond and green tourmaline earrings and an assortment of cool cocktail rings with brown diamonds, lapis lazuli, topaz and jet, all by Pomellato.
Fellow actor Rosario Dawson also added a tiny touch of colour to her all-black ensemble, with Chopard’s chandelier earrings featuring 27.19 carats of emeralds, framed with white diamonds. And Selena Gomez opted for a splash of Italian drama, by pairing her puff-sleeved black dress with a Serpenti high jewellery diamond collar from Bulgari boasting over 200 carats of white diamonds, said to be worth over US$1million.
