Camilla, Queen Consort paid a poignant tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II at the monarch’s state funeral on Monday, wearing Queen Victoria’s Hesse Diamond Jubilee brooch.

Glistening on the left side of her black mourning coat, the heart-shaped pin features the number 60 in Slavonic lettering, frosted in diamonds, with a blue sapphire at the top and two sapphire pendants.

The piece is particularly symbolic as it was a gift to Queen Victoria by her Hessian grandchildren on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, which was officially celebrated on June 22, 1897, to mark the 60th year of her reign.

In what appears to be a meaningful tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth, Camilla may have chosen this piece as a nod to the fact that the Queen was Britain’s longest reigning monarch, taking over Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years.

As Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla wore the brooch for various royal engagements over the years. Most notably, during state visits to Philadelphia in 2007, Japan in 2008, Canada in 2009 and during a Scandinavian tour with then-Prince Charles to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee more than a decade ago.

For the occasion of the Queen’s state funeral, Camilla coordinated her Hessian brooch with a pair of oval stud earrings featuring a sapphire stone surrounded with diamonds and a gold pendant necklace.
