In Deferlante, Chaumet's new high jewellery collection, we see its signatures, from the tiara to the transformable jewel. Artisans of the 12 Vendôme workshop have worked to create the idea of evoking water in all its forms
Chaumet‘s latest collection Déferlante which was shown in its Place Vendome HQ, takes its inspiration from motion and in particular the sea. The sight and sound of breaking waves at the presentation are representative of the eight individual diamond pieces, which also includes a secret timepiece.
The capsule builds on Chaumet’s signatures, which include of course the tiara, as well as the transformable jewel, and is an extension of Torsade de Chaumet.
Artisans of the 12 Vendôme workshop have worked to create the idea of evoking water in all its forms: cascades, waterfalls, drops and stalactites embody tiaras, hair ornaments, brooches and combs.
The story starts with the waterfall bodice ornament displayed by Joseph Chaumet at the Exposition Universelle held in Paris in 1900. Then, 122 years later, Déferlante is the next phase in this. Taking an element of nature and reinterpreting it, the Chaumet way, this time with wild water elements carefully reconsidered with elegant finesse.
A three-row necklace captures fluidity and features a pear-shaped diamond of 3.57 carats.
A brooch among the collection features seven diamond waves to make a powerful impact.
The tiara is inspired by an archival drawing of a fountain, and created in white gold. The stone setting is complex with openwork, and the piece is like a jewelled sculpture. Notably, as the house points out: “It necessitated no less than 1.600 brilliant-cut and step-cut diamonds, without any repetition, to captures the energy of the water surging onto the shore, in a large cut-down setting to evoke ocean foam.”
