London jeweller Hannah Martin has launched an opulent new collection of gender fluid fine jewellery for piercing. Embellished with diamonds and pearls, the 18K gold pieces bring a curated approach to body adornment

“The world right now has a tendency to make you feel numb or totally overwhelmed. I create jewellery to make you feel something, like a mini act of rebellion,” says the British rock and roll designer and goldsmith, Hannah Martin. “Some people find their rebellion in a mosh pit. Some find it in nature. I find it in jewellery.”
Now, the London-based jeweller is hoping to help fans feel even more deeply (quite literally), with a new ready-for-piercing collection of fine jewels. Crafted from 18k gold, Tahitian pearls and diamonds, HMp (Hannah Martin pierced) aims to luxe up the piercing sector, with genderless pieces designed make “the whole experience of piercing a bit more special,” says Martin.
HMp was inspired by Martin’s own search for a cool piece of jewellery suitable for piercing about five years ago – one that was as safe as stainless steel, but aesthetically more pleasing and precious. “The act of piercing is so personal, like a ritual, and it’s all about human connection and a desire – even if that’s just about wanting to look great,” says the jeweller, who is renowned for her edgy yet intensely wearable designs. “I wanted to make the process of being pierced feel a little more special. It’s all about an act self love, really.”
Cue a wide selection of gleaming 18k barbells, hinged rings, hangers and studs in a variety of sizes, with interchangeable elements like Tahitian pearls or white, champagne and cognac-coloured diamonds, which can be swapped out for a perfect curated look. Each piece bears Martin’s trademark boldness, with an elegant, sculptural touch, and has been crafted for novices and die-hard piercing fans alike.
Made in Martin’s Clerkenwell studio, HMp will be available in both London and Los Angeles, where Martin has partnered with renowned piercing artist Brian Keith Thompson of the venerable Hollywood institution, Body Electric Tattoo. In London, Martin will host the exceptional body modification expert, Miss Roni, for piercings with the HMp collection. “Eventually, we’d like to take HMp out on tour, to more locations, like a music band,” says Martin. “Watch this space.”
