Imelda Staunton paid a subtle tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at the world premiere of the fifth season of The Crown in a suite of the late monarch’s most admired gemstone, pearls.
The Oscar-nominated and five-time Laurence Olivier Award-crowned British actor, who portrays the Queen in the new series, stepped onto the red carpet at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in a bespoke Huntsman suit, which she elevated with pearl earrings and a matching ring by Tasaki.
Plucked from the London jeweller’s Balance collection, the shimmering white gold set is festooned with three Akoya Pearls and framed in diamonds.
Imelda’s stylist commented that he “put the look together as a nod to her role in the TV show and that is why we opted for the pearls and British tailoring”.
The Queen was rarely photographed without her beloved pearl necklace. The milky strands, gifted to her as a young girl by her father, George VI, would become part of her signature look, worn on her wedding day to Prince Philip and other royal occasions throughout her reign.
