This diamond, sapphire and topaz talisman went up for sale at Sotheby's Important Jewels charity auction, raising an impressive $11,000 in funds for Ukrainian victims of war
By Joshua Hendren
For the first time in Sotheby’s history, works by Ukrainian jewellery designers have been sold at auction. Organised by the Ukrainian jewellery collective Strong and Precious, the Important Jewels sale raised a total of $56,000 for Ukrainian victims of war, and included this one-of-a-kind pendant by Oberig.
Founded over a decade ago by Tatiana Kondratyuk, the fine jewellery line is known for drawing upon the “four sources of energy” (nature, kin, symbols and faith) to protect its wearers and, much like all the other Oberig jewels, this detachable gem possesses a deep and symbolic meaning.
Exceeding its estimated value and fetching an impressive $11,000, the pendant is crafted in 18K white gold and set with brilliant-cut white and black diamonds and circular-cut sapphire and topaz. At its centre is an octagonal star, which, according to ancient Slavic traditions, is believed to guide and protect its owner from danger.
All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Superhumans charity, an ultra-modern rehabilitation centre for adults and children injured due to the hostilities in Ukraine.
