Jacob & Co. debuts the new $600,000 Astronomia Revolution timepiece

The $600,000 special-edition watch is housed in a sculptural 47mm gold case and powered by the all-new manual-winding calibre JCAM48B

Few watchmakers can rival the daring creations of Jacob & Co., with the New York jeweller’s latest timepiece, the Astronomia Revolution, being a testament to this.

Unveiled on the occasion of Geneva watch week, the Astronomia Revolution is powered by the all-new Calibre JCAM48B, a movement capable of rotating fully once every minute.

A limited run of just 18 pieces, the watch is a striking visual marvel, with a 47mm case spun in mirrored rose or white gold and cased in sapphire glass. Elsewhere, the rotating calibre features a flying tourbillon, a ruby-tipped seconds indicator, and an hour and minute dial rotating on their own axes at the same time.

This new mechanism is known as the whip constant force device and it consists of a star-shaped gear within the balance gear train. It activates every 1/6th of a second, matching the frequency of the balance and acts as a buffer between the power from the barrel and the tourbillons.

“We’ve been grooming the Astronomia movement for eight years now,” says CEO Benjamin Arabov. “It started at the already incredible speed (at the time) of one revolution every 20 minutes. It is unique, unheard of, and not just an evolution of Astronomia. This piece has been reworked from the ground up. It required revolutionary mechanics, inventions and what we at Jacob & Co. are driven by. Astronomia Revolution is “Inspired by the Impossible”, and we made it possible.”
