Jaeger-LeCoultre reveals the Rendez-Vous Star watch

The Rendez-Vous Star takes Jaeger-LeCoultre’s artistic prowess to new heights by recreating the mesmerising celestial phenomenon of shooting stars on the wrist

Story by Joshua Hendren

There is something just so romantic about a shooting star as it trails across the night sky. The designers at Jaeger-LeCoultre certainly agree, as their breathtaking new timepiece, the Rendez-Vous Star, recreates this celestial phenomenon on the wrist with an entirely new mechanism conceived and developed within the Manufacture.

Drawing on almost 190 years of expertise, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has crafted the Rendez-Vous Star in two enchanting variations: a white gold case with a dial in subtle tones of silvery blue and a pink gold case with a dial in soft golden browns.

Designed by artisans at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares atelier, the 36mm creation captures the beauty and mystery of the starry sky in a circle of glittering diamonds set at the bezel. The upper surfaces of the lugs and the top of the crown are also diamond-set, while a three-quarter circle of diamonds punctuates the sapphire glass dial, achieved by integrating fine gold threads directly into the glass to anchor the diamonds and enhance the effect of transparency and lightness.

Crafted in transparent sapphire glass, the uppermost part of the dial’s three layers has been dusted with transferred “stars” and finished with miniature hand-painted clouds and a crescent moon. Beneath this is a rotating circular disc of titanium with a cut-out of the shooting star, in a deep night-blue for the white gold version and a dark taupe colour for the pink gold version.

Driving the Rendez-Vous Star is the new in-house automatic calibre 734, incorporating the new shooting star mechanism. Activated by the movement of the wrist, the shooting star appears on the dial at random moments, usually four to six times per hour. The star may also be summoned on demand by turning the crown several times. For watch enthusiasts and fans of the brand, this dazzling new timepiece is most certainly a dream come true.
