Courbet is the first lab-grown diamond jeweller to present high jewellery at Paris Couture. Here, we discover the maison's new showstopping duo, the Constellation earrings and necklace
By Ian Thorley
Luxury brand Courbet is the first lab-grown diamond jeweller to present high jewellery at Paris couture. Putting lab-grown bling front and centre, the maison’s new duo, Constellation, features a showstopping pair of earrings and a curvaceous diamond necklace in recycled white gold.
With over four hundred hours of craft required, the necklace is comprised of 1,810 diamonds, totalling a whopping 48.26 carats, with a 5.09-carat brilliant-cut diamond as its centrepiece. Meanwhile, the earrings, spun from recycled 18-carat white gold, feature 19.45 carats of diamonds.
Founded by Manuel Mallen, a Richemont veteran who has also worked at Piaget, and Marie-Ann Wachtmeister, a Swedish designer-entrepreneur, just five years ago, Courbet is named after the famous French painter Gustave Courbet, a leading figure of the French realism movement in the 19th century, and counts the likes of Chanel as one of their investors.
Like other lab-grown diamond jewellers, the house uses solely recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds. What makes the brand so unique, however, is that they are the first jeweller to use exclusively lab-grown gemstones based out of Place Vendôme, the headquarters of the French jewellery industry.
This isn’t their first foray into creating exclusive pieces, either. In 2019, Courbet became the first lab-grown diamond company to create and sell a 9-carat diamond ring.
And while, Courbet’s next move remains to be seen, perhaps we’ll be treated to an extended collection at the haute couture shows in July later this year.
