Julia Roberts shines in new feel-good campaign for Chopard

Julia Roberts’ latest film isn’t coming to a big screen near you – rather, the Hollywood actor’s newest movies can be viewed right now on your phone. The face of Chopard‘s bestselling Happy Sport and Happy Diamonds collections for two years, Roberts is now stepping up her role as Maison’s global ambassador and muse for all of its women’s watch and jewellery collections.

Launching March 20th, the International Day of Happiness, the new ‘Chopard Loves Cinema’ campaign consists of 12 video vignettes starring Roberts and shot by the award-winning American film director James Gray, with accompanying stills by celebrated British photographer Alasdair McLellan and backstage imagery by Greg Williams.

Chopard’s relationship with the movies is a long and dazzling one. It has been the official jewellery parter of the Cannes Film Festival for over 25 years, and launches its high jewellery Red Carpet collections every year during the glamorous event. Just this year, Jodie Turner Smith and Sheila Atim have both stunned in dramatic Chopard necklaces at the BAFTAs, whilst Angela Bassett collected her award for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes adorned in the house’s white diamond jewels.

Roberts herself has fond memories of working with the House, particularly at Cannes in 2016. “The first time I was there, running late and racing down the hallway. Somebody was still sewing me into my dress, so we were all running down the hallway to the elevator and somebody was sewing away. And I just thought, ‘It’s so classic’,” she has said. On that occasion, Roberts famously accompanied her long black gown and enormous emerald Chopard necklace with bare feet – an apparent protest against the festival turning away attendees for wearing ‘the wrong footwear’ the previous year.

“After our Happy Diamonds campaign directed by Xavier Dolan in 2021, which featured a mesmerising and twirling Julia Roberts illustrating the pure, immediate and communicative happiness at the heart of Chopard’s spirit, this new series broadens the spectrum of the initial momentum,” says Chopard’s co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele, of the new campaign. “We are revealing a new facet of our identity, the Feel-Good vibe: the self-confidence instilled by Chopard jewellery or watches, reverberating in the air and infusing the entire surrounding universe with positive energy.”

In for the series of short films, which apparently took a week to shoot, Roberts appears backstage on a film set, with stylised moments of wearing Chopard jewellery and watches whilst catching up with her colleagues, watching a film playback on camera or cuddling her dog.
