Kanye West gets $850k titanium grills

Rapper Kanye West took to Instagram to show off a new set of titanium grills (perhaps even dentures?) apparently inspired by the James Bond villain, Jaws

No stranger to a bit of bling, it seems Kanye West is stepping up his metal game, having just shown off a set of titanium teeth on Instagram.

With an image posted to his Stories, the rapper revealed a shining mouthful of metal, followed by an image of the James Bond villain, Jaws, who clearly inspired Ye’s bold new look. Jaws, who was played by the actor Richard Kiel, appeared in both 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me and 1979’s Moonraker.

It has been reported that West – who once claimed in 2010 that he had had his bottom teeth removed and replaced with diamonds – designed the daring new dentures himself (complete with cat-like incisors), and was aided in their application by Beverley Hills dentist, Dr. Thomas Connelly, alongside dental technician Naoki Hayashi. The procedure is said to have cost the singer $850,000 (about £670,000).

Whether West has had his teeth actually removed to make way for his new titanium gnashers is yet to be proved, though Dr. Connelly has commented that the rapper’s teeth remain firmly in his mouth, and that he had “created a new look that is epic”.

It seems Kanye isn’t the only member of the West clan to show off shiny dental work this week: North West, his ten-year-old daughter with Kim Kardashian, also shared a photo on Tik Tok which revealed white diamond grills on some of her upper and lower teeth. Four of her teeth had been entirely covered in pavé, whilst others had been framed with the sparkling stones. The photo was captioned, ‘Random’. Last year, Ye’s son, Saint West, also showed off a pair of sparkly gold tooth jewels shaped like Louis Vuitton logos ahead of one of the brand’s runway shows.

With a much-delayed comeback album, Vultures, set to be released in February this year, perhaps Kanye is quite literally putting his money where his mouth is to get people talking.
