Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla wear historic brooches on Commonwealth Day

The Princess of Wales and the Queen Consort sparkled in storied brooches for their appearance at the annual Commonwealth Day celebration at Westminster Abbey

Catherine, Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla donned storied brooches for the annual Commonwealth Day celebration at Westminster Abbey.

The Princess of Wales, resplendent in a peplum jacket and coordinating midi skirt from Erdem’s pre-fall 2023 collection, opted for the Prince of Wales feathers pendant/brooch, a piece steeped in royal history dating back to 1863, when the future King Edward VII married Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

It was gifted to Alexandra by “the Ladies of North Wales”, and features the crest of the Prince of Wales in blue sapphires alongside small white diamonds, rubies and emeralds that are likely to represent the Welsh flag along with additional diamonds and emeralds flanking the design. The piece is estimated to be worth $400,000.

Meanwhile, the Queen Consort opted for the jaw-dropping Russian Sapphire Cluster Brooch, that was once owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Dating back to Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia in the late 1800s, the pin features 18 large diamonds around a smaller, detailed gold setting, with a large eight to 10 sapphire stones in the centre. The sparkler, which was paired with a set of milky pearl drop earrings, has an estimated worth of $680,000.
