Khaite x Elhanati’s new jewellery collaboration

New York-based fashion label Khaite has collaborated with Danish jeweller Elhanati on a limited capsule collection of gold accessories for the first time.

By Kim Parker

The Khaite x Elhanati jewellery collaboration, which launches today, consists of two 24k gold-coated-silver brooches. One with four bezel-set square black spinels and 14 gypsy-set round emeralds. The other with four bezel-set square black spinels and 29 gypsy-set round emeralds.

Additionally there are a pair of earrings, and glistening belt buckles crafted from 24-karat-gold-coated bronze and Italian black leather straps. There’s also a spinel-set hair slide, which feels like the perfect finishing touch given that Holstein’s fashion label takes its name, Khaite, from the Greek word for ‘long, flowing hair’. Get them while they last.

Founded in just 2016, the New York-based label Khaite has quickly risen through the fashion ranks to become the go-to ready-to-wear brand for celebrities. Such as Selena Gomez, Brit Marling, Kaia Gerber, and Caroline de Maigret. That cashmere bra and cardigan that Katie Holmes wore back in 2019 that went viral, resulting in a stream of high street copycat versions? That was Khaite.

The brand’s founder and creative director, Catherine Holstein, has become renowned for her low-key yet luxurious and minimalist designs. Focusing instead on the best quality materials. Ultra-soft cashmere. Buttery leather. The best straight-leg denim jeans with the perfect wash.

Until now, that is. Today, the label launches its first fine jewellery collection, created in collaboration with the Danish jewellery brand Elhanati.

Founded by Copenhagen-based designer Orit Elhanati 2011, the label centres on handcrafted pieces using recycled 18k gold, with playful and organic-looking designs inspired by Elhanati’s Greek, Israeli and Danish heritage. To create the Khaite Elhanati jewellery collection, the two creatives connected with each other during the first months of the global pandemic. “Creating the designs was a real dialogue, an exchange of ideas,” says Elhanati of the collaborative process. “We ended up with something that can last forever, something timeless that merges both of our worlds into one.”

“Khaite is a brand built on contrasts. Continuously playing with and rebalancing opposing elements to create new ways of seeing, feeling, and dressing,” adds Holstein. “I recognized a similar approach in Elhanati, which merges modern Scandinavian restraint with the ancient mystique of the Middle East.”

The jewellery designs are defined by square and rectangular gold frames inset with stylised latticework inset with spinels, with unique surfaces created by hammering, dripping, and layering differing goldsmiths techniques. Some pieces are set with black spinels and petite round emeralds, to accentuate their geometric patterns.
