If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an engagement ring like Princess Diana’s, or even taking a ride in the Golden State Coach like The Queen, your wish might be about to come true. As the final series of The Crown premieres on Netflix, London auction house Bonhams has announced it will be hosting a unique auction of almost 450 items – including costumes, props and furniture – from all six series of the award-winning drama.

One of the expected highlights of the sale is the replica sapphire and diamond engagement ring worn by actor Emma Corrin (as Lady Diana Spencer), which carries an estimate of £2,000-3,000. Also on offer will be the pearl-embellished powder blue ballgown, accompanied by a faux fur stole and grey leather court shoes, which Claire Foy wore to play a young Queen Elizabeth II in season 1 of The Crown (with an estimate of between £5,000-7,000), as will the black off-the-shoulder ‘Revenge Dress’ that Elizabeth Debicki, as Princess Diana, wore in series 5 (estimated at £8,000-12,000).

Prospective brides might be pleased to know that even Princess Margaret’s entire bridal ensemble, as worn by Vanessa Kirby in season 2 – complete with full-length ivory gown, veil, shoes and bouquet – will be up for grabs and is expected to fetch between £6,000-8,000. You could even ride to your wedding in a reproduction of the magnificent Golden State Coach (on sale from £30,000) and take a seat afterwards on your own version of the Queen’s gilded Coronation Chair (yours for between £10,000-20,000).

The sale will be taking place in two parts, with a live sale of around 150 items on 7th February 2024 at Bonhams’ New Bond Street location, and an online auction of the roughly 300 lots from 30th January to 8th February, 2024. Proceeds from the live sale will go towards establishing the ‘Left Bank Pictures – The Crown Scholarship Programme’ at the National Film and Television School (NFTS), which has sites across the UK. The scholarship is expected to fund a number of students over the next 20 years, allowing them to receive the specialised training for which the school is globally renowned.

“It has been a privilege for me and all at Left Bank Pictures to have been at the heart of The Crown. Its huge global success has much to do with working with the best creative and production talent in this country and we want to invest the proceeds of this magnificent auction into the next generation of film and TV talent,” said Andy Harries, chief executive of Left Bank Pictures and executive producer of The Crown. “The NFTS has been part of The Crown’s history from the start with many of its graduates contributing to the production of the show over the years. I have long admired the ethos and training of the school and supported it personally. So, I am thrilled that the legacy of The Crown will be to provide so much financial support for so many students at the NFTS over the next few decades. With their unrivalled knowledge and expertise in Film and Entertainment memorabilia, Bonhams was the sole choice of partners for us. Their specialists’ excitement, vision and passion for The Crown Auction was evident from the start.”

With the last six episodes of The Crown being released from 14th December this year, fans who aren’t quite ready to say goodbye can at least look forward to a glittering, and possibly very exciting, start to 2024….
