Lupita Nyong’o is rounding out the year with a bang. Next month, she’s set to star in Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Nakia, a Wakandan spy. And if that wasn’t enough to get us excited, the Academy Award-winning actress has just been announced as De Beers’ first global ambassador.
Nyong’o stars in the fine jewellery brand’s Where It Begins campaign, photographed by Lachlan Bailey, unveiled today. Celebrating De Beers’ passion for diamond sourcing, the campaign follows Nyong’o from the discovery of a rough diamond to its transformation into jewellery, as she sports pieces from the label’s Enchanted Lotus collection, including a host of dazzling 18K white gold pieces.
“I’m honoured to be the first Global Ambassador for De Beers,” says the actor. “This campaign brings to life the transformative power that I feel when I wear De Beers’ diamond creations, and the pride in knowing where they come from and the good they do.”
As a core element of the new partnership, Nyong’o will be supporting De Beers’ Building Forever project, which has goals to engage 10,000 girls in STEM, support 10,000 women entrepreneurs, and to invest at least $10 million across southern Africa by 2030. “Even more importantly, my partnership with De Beers allows me to extend my advocacy for women and girls around the world,” she revealed of the initiative.
Marc Jacheet, CEO of De Beers brands, adds that “with her rare magnetism and elegance, Lupita Nyong’o is a testament to the power of boundless possibilities. Embodying modern and responsible luxury, Lupita is an inspiration for all of us. De Beers is proud that Lupita has joined our Building Forever commitment to people and the planet and we stand with her as she embarks on an exciting chapter in her career.”
