This year marks the 90th anniversary of Chanel’s Bijoux de Diamants collection, the first and only high jewellery offering by Gabrielle Chanel.

Introduced with a manifesto from the Surrealist writer and artist Jean Cocteau and photographs by the legendary film-maker Robert Bresson, the 50-piece ensemble was an instant sensation, with bracelets, brooches, collars, and rings spun out in platinum and gold and dripping with diamonds.

Ninety years later, to celebrate this extraordinary savoir-faire, Chanel invited Hollywood’s greatest to a sparkling launch dinner for the Maison’s latest 1932 collection – a suite of new pieces inspired by Chanel’s original Bijoux de Diamants.

Among those in attendance was the Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard who shimmered in Chanel’s new Soleil 19 Août necklace. Named after Coco’s birth date, the show-stopping creation is set in white and yellow gold and features a cushion-cut Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond weighing 22.10 carats that can be detached and transformed into a ring.

“The Chanel 1932 High Jewellery collection evokes art and emotion for me. The House has literally reached for the stars,” says Cotillard of the glittering designs. “Sometimes, in a collection with so many pieces, there are some that we like more than others. Here I find them all sublime, breathtaking. Like art, this collection is penetrating.”

To pair alongside the necklace, Cotillard opted for the Comète Infinie ring in white and yellow gold set with white and yellow diamonds.

“When we wear stones, there is always an energetic resonance,” Cotillard adds, “and the two pieces of jewellery I chose tonight touched me.”
