MoonSwatch, the Omega x Swatch collaboration

Omega and Swatch have joined forces to rework the famous Omega Moonwatch, creating a unique MoonSwatch. The Swatches are perfect for Moonwatch fans looking for a twist on an iconic timepiece.

Following the recent trend of high profile brands collaborating, Omega and Swatch have joined forces to rework the famous Omega Moonwatch, creating a unique MoonSwatch in bioceramic.

The first and best known collaboration of this type was the hugely successful joint venture between Kim Jones’s Louis Vuitton and New York streetwear brand, Supreme. Following this there have been a swathe of different collaborations including Gucci x The North Face, Dior x Nike, and Louis Vuitton x NBA.

The meeting between art inspired streetwear watch brand Swatch and Omega is believed to be a first in luxury watchmaking. Drawing inspiration from space together the two brands have created eleven Swatches named after our sun and the planets that circle it.

All of the Swatches are in bioceramic, a unique mix of two-thirds ceramic and one-third material derived from castor oil. Unique colour palates of pink and blue make up the collection, offering a unique contrast to the Moonwatch’s traditionally sober colours of black and grey. However, despite the wacky colour combination the technical details and construction of the watch remain the same. The famous tachymeter scale and chronograph still work as perfectly in the Moon Swatch as they did for Jim Lovell and the Apollo XIII crew. They used the Moonwatch to pilot them back to earth when an oxygen tank failed two days into the mission.

For OMEGA President and CEO Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann comments, “The MoonSwatch collection salutes the saviours of our industry in a witty and accessible way. The Swatches are perfect for budding Moonwatch fans and I can’t think of a more appropriate icon for our shared project. We went to the moon, now we’re exploring the whole Milky Way. They’re great watches, in fantastic colours and they make me smile.”
