Story by Joshua Hendren

The annual Watches & Wonders trade fair in Geneva is a chance for the world’s most prestigious makers to showcase the very pinnacle of horological savoir-faire and storytelling. This year was no exception, and featured an exquisite selection of jewellery watches that showcased precise gem-setting, enamel painting, stone-sculpting, stone marquetry, and more.

Fresh from Watches & Wonders 2024, these are Something About Rocks’ favourite creations of the year.

Gucci G-Timeless Planetarium

Gucci’s mesmerising G-Timeless Planetarium features 12 rotating stones that encircle a diamond-encrusted tourbillon at the watch’s centre. Lending vibrancy to the dial, these precious gems include opals, garnets, yellow beryl, peridot, tourmaline, topaz, tanzanite, amethyst and rubellite for a rainbow of light on the wrist.

Piaget Swinging Sautoir

Sautoir watches are back. Haven’t you heard? This twisted gold pendant watch from Piaget is a highlight of this year’s offering, anchored by a kaleidoscopic white opal cabochon of 11.68-carats suspended in a trapeze case.

Chanel Sautoir Bust Couture

Another stand-out sautoir, Chanel’s Bust Couture pendant watch is strung with a yellow gold mannequin snow-set with diamonds with a black lacquer dial concealed in its waist.

Cartier Crocodile Jewellery Watch

Cartier transported watch lovers to a bejewelled animal kingdom with their newest high watchmaking collection. Among the pieces on show was this Crocodile Jewelry Watch which presents a sculpture of the reptile coiled around a white round case. Adorning the model is mother-of-pearl, enamel, sapphires, brilliant-cut diamonds, and a cabochon-cut emerald for the eye.

Vacheron Constantin
Vacheron Constantin Grand Lady Kalla

Vacheron Constantin’s new Grand Lady Kalla reinterprets an original design from 1979 as a gleaming new diamond-set pendant watch. Its slim, rectangular case and bracelet have been set with 268 emerald-cut diamonds, weighing over 46 carats. Meanwhile, the sautoir features polished onyx and diamonds as well as a tassels of luminous Akoya pearls.

Van Cleef & Arpels
Van Cleef & Arpels Lady Jour Nuit

For 2024, Van Cleef & Arpels has reworked its Jour Nuit watch, a model first introduced in 2008. This new 33mm design is presented in a white gold case punctuated by a dial in aventurine glass and mother-of-pearl that showcases a glittering night sky with white gold stars frosted with diamonds.
