Striking colour combinations and alternative settings with imaginative cuts define the Suzanne Kalan aesthetic, which has been cultivated over 32 years. Kalan, who is based in California, runs her eponymous brand with her daughter Patile Kalandijan. Each design is handmade and explores the idea of asymmetry and symmetry. The placing diamonds and gemstones together in innovative new ways. 

The designer is known for her interesting and vibrant cuts

Kalan, notably, is recognised for several designs in particular. The Fireworks collection, which employs scattered baguette diamonds with large custom-cut gemstones. She is also know for the Vitrine concept, cutting gemstones flat on the top and bottom to then reveal a diamond panel behind the gemstone.

Kalan is a favourite in the jewellery industry. Her fans include celebrities as well as contemporaries. Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Anniston are among those who have worn her designs. While Kalan has also scooped numerous jewellery awards. In 2014, she received the prestigious Couture Design Award for the “Diamond Below $20,000 (Retail)” category for her Fireworks Baguette Diamond Shield ring. In 2015 she received the Gem Diva Award from the American Gem Trade Association for her Fireworks Vitrine Necklace. And, in 2016, she received the award for “Best Everyday Jewellery” at the Middle East Jewellery of the Year Awards.
