After a muted year in 2022, the Golden Globes were back and more dazzling than ever as the great and good of Hollywood gathered in Beverly Hills to celebrate the year’s outstanding film and television performances.
Old school elegance was the order of the day on the red carpet, with celebrities opting to embellish their corset dresses, brightly-hued gowns and sequinned frocks with constellations of icy white diamonds.
Rihanna exuded 1950s glamour in black ruched gown and sweeping velvet cape by Schiaparelli, which she offset with a dramatic high jewellery 18k white gold and diamond necklace from Cartier’s Sixième Sens collection, and platinum and diamond Cartier earrings.
Malaysian mega-star Michelle Yeoh, who scooped the best actress award for her role as Evelyn Wang, the owner of a failing laundromat in Everything Everywhere All At Once, added extra lustre to her sparkling midnight blue Armani gown with a white diamond high jewellery necklace, cuff and ring by London jeweller Moussaieff.
A renowned jewellery-lover, who even wore some of her own pieces to play the matriarch Eleanor Young in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians, Yeoh has said that she is “always impressed” by the beauty and intricacy of Moussiaeff’s pieces, adding that “the classic designs sparkle and each piece is so unique and special.”
Dressed in a super modern bandeau gown, Anya Taylor-Joy opted to channel Old Hollywood with her jewellery, choosing a set of gold and diamond Tiffany & Co pieces by the trailblazing French designer, Jean Schlumberger, who once counted Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Greta Garbo amongst his clientele.
Garnering the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, Angela Basset made history by being the first actor to win a major award for a role in a Marvel Studios movie. She collected her gong adorned in Chopard jewellery, including a pair of earrings featuring 13.66 carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold, and a white gold bracelet set with 85.43 carats of round and pear-cut diamonds.
Fellow nominee Viola Davis, who has been lauded for her role in The Woman King, also selected Chopard diamonds for the ceremony. Davis accessorised her regal blue gown with round white gold and titanium earrings set with over 18 carats of white diamonds and a stack of white gold and diamond bracelets and bangles.
Fresh from starring as Princess Diana in The Crown, Elizabeth Debicki paid her own sartorial tribute to the royal by wearing a petal pink Dior dress that seemed to nod to Diana’s own rosy-hued gown that she wore during a 1983 tour of Australia. Debicki, who is also a Dior jewellery ambassador, finished her look with a glittering Rose Dior necklace in white gold and diamonds.
Stephanie Hsu, who portrayed Michelle Yeoh’s on-screen daughter/arch nemesis in Everything Everywhere All At Once, paired her monochromatic haute couture Giambattista Valli gown with equally haute couture jewels from Cartier. Her platinum drop earrings were set with pearls, onyx and diamonds, whilst her ring featured white gold, onyx and diamonds plus a pop of glistening red, courtesy of a polished rubellite cabochon.
Black Panther star Letitia Wright continued the white diamond theme with her choice of Bulgari jewels. She sported a pair of the Roman jeweller’s Heritage earrings in white gold and diamonds from 2001, as well as a high jewellery ring set with a mix of square, round and pavé diamonds.
Eschewing funereal black, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega opted instead for a dusky rose Gucci dress. The requisite touch of goth came courtesy of her shimmering Tiffany & Co. jewellery, including a slinky snake necklace by Tiffany designer Elsa Peretti.
Also dressed in ethereal Gucci, Julia Garner was actually nominated for two Golden Globes this year – for her roles in Inventing Anna and the final season of Ozark. She complemented the sparkling crystals in her ruffled pink gown with a De Beers necklace with a mix of diamond cuts, plus delicate cuff earrings and a white diamond ring.
And as if to highlight her role as Barbie in the upcoming Greta Gerwig film, Margot Robbie opted for a diaphanous pink Chanel gown, adorned with a sparkling diamond star by the Maison.
