It may have been a Sunday evening, but there was no Netflix and chill with a takeaway for some of the brightest stars of the silver screen, as they flocked to central London for BAFTA 2023. And as expected, there was plenty of sparkling jewellery to be seen on the red carpet.
Michelle Yeoh, nominated for a Best Actress gong, was early to arrive and look sleekly chic in a pale rose Dior suit, adorned with a suite of precious pink gems from Bond Street stalwart, Moussaieff. She wore a rare natural Burma pink sapphire ring, accompanied with shoulder-dusting Burma ruby and diamond earrings. An eye-catching pink sapphire and diamond bangle shimmered on her right wrist, whilst on her left, the actor sported a diamond-encrusting timepiece by luxury watchmaker, Richard Mille.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, stunned onlookers in her all-white floor length McQueen gown and black elbow-length gloves, as well as a spectacular pair of copper-coloured floral cascade earring by Zara, which cost just £17.99 (and are now sold out).
Singer Ellie Goulding opted for a white diamond Serpenti collar necklace by Bulgari, the official jewellery partner for the BAFTA awards.
Fellow singer Geri Horner also opted for jewels by Bulgari, in her case a dramatic Diva’s Dream high jewellery necklace and matching drop earrings.
Bulgari was also the choice of Lily James, star of Pam and Tommy, who high jewellery earrings in white gold and oval diamonds with a matching ring.
She may not have scooped a best supporting actress gong for her turn in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but Angela Bassett did look suitably queenly in a pair of feathered diamond earrings by Boucheron.
German model and influencer, Leonie Hanne, chose a pair of high jewellery Enchanted Lotus earrings by diamond specialists De Beers.
Brooches continue to be a huge trend amongst the best-dressed men. Best actor nominee Ke Huy Quan sported a beautiful floral pin on his left lapel as he arrived at the ceremony (and an Omega watch in stainless steel and yellow gold peeping out from his right cuff).
Dapper gentlemen Paul Mescal (in Cartier) and Paapa Essiedu (in Hermès jewellery) also sported shimmering diamond pins over their hearts.
Meanwhile, Dungeons & Dragons actor Regé-Jean Page opted for a pair of diamond clips from Boucheron‘s latest high jewellery collection, Like A Queen.
It was a big night for LBDs (Long Black Dresses) and white diamonds, too. Carey Mulligan, Ariana de Bose and Julianne Moore all wore Bulgari. Mulligan opted for a diamond and emerald high jewellery necklace whilst de Bose and Moore fell for the snake-like charms of the house’s Serpenti collars.
Anya Taylor Joy, cosy in bronze velvet Schiaparelli couture, donned a vintage gold and diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co. for the event.
Actor Naomi Ackie looked angelic in an all-white gown with a silver corset belt, plus Cartier high jewellery diamond and emerald earrings and a white diamond ring.
Best actress winner Cate Blanchett wore a multi-stranded high jewellery necklace by Louis Vuitton, with pearls and a 23.78 carat step-cut tourmaline repurposed from another piece of jewellery.
Jodie Turner-Smith embellished her feathered Gucci gown with a necklace from Chopard, featuring over 38 carats of heart-shaped sapphires and over 12 carats of white diamonds. She also wore sapphire and diamond earrings to match, a ring set with a 3.79-carat tanzanite and another set with a garnet weighing 4.89 carats.
EE Rising Star Award nominee, Sheila Atim, was also decked out in Chopard diamonds. She chose an 18k white gold high jewellery necklace with over 226 carats of heart-shaped diamonds, and matching diamond chandelier earrings.
Dr. Who star Tracy Ifeachor added a sprinkling of white diamonds to her ruched red dress courtesy of London jeweller David Morris. The actor chose a delicate necklace with rose cut diamonds in graduated flower motifs, plus white gold and rose cut diamond earrings, a flexible double-row bangle and a three-row eternity ring.
Emma Thompson tapped into the ongoing trend for modern pearls with a suite of baroque pieces by designer Melanie Georgacopoulos.
