Effective for all contributors to Something About Rocks Magazine

These terms apply to all contributors (including writers, photographers, and artists) submitting content to Something About Rocks Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “the Publisher”), whether commissioned or uncommissioned. By submitting content, you (“the Contributor”) agree to the following:

1. Definitions

  • Contribution: Any article, image, video, or content submitted for publication.
  • Commissioned: Content assigned by an editor or representative.
  • Uncommissioned: Content submitted speculatively or unsolicited.

2. Rights Granted

  • For commissioned content, you grant us:
    • Exclusive rights for three (3) months from first publication.
    • Non-exclusive rights thereafter, for the full term of copyright.
  • For uncommissioned content, you grant non-exclusive rights from submission.
  • These rights include use in:
    • Print and digital editions
    • Social media, newsletters, and archive
    • Syndication and third-party licensing (you will receive 50% of syndication fees)
  • You retain copyright ownership.
  • You grant us the necessary rights to use, edit, and distribute your contribution as described above.
  • You agree to waive moral rights under the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, including the right not to be edited.

4. Payment & Expenses

  • Commissioned fees will be agreed in writing before work begins.
  • Reasonable pre-approved expenses will be reimbursed on receipt of valid documentation.

5. Editorial Control

  • All contributions may be edited for clarity, tone, style, and length.
  • Final publication is at our discretion.

6. Credit & Promotion

  • We will credit you where reasonably possible.
  • You may share and promote your published work across your own channels.

You confirm that:

  • Your work is original and does not infringe on any third-party rights.
  • It is not defamatory or illegal.
  • You indemnify us against any claims resulting from breaches of these warranties.

8. Independent Status

  • You are a freelance contractor, not an employee.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and legal obligations.

9. Confidentiality

You agree not to share unpublished content or confidential editorial material without our consent.

10. Data & Privacy

Your data will be handled in accordance with UK GDPR and our [Privacy Policy].

11. Termination

  • Either party may withdraw from a commission with reasonable notice.
  • Rights for any published material remain valid.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes will be resolved in the English courts.
