Dior have today (May 6) unveiled a new collection of high jewellery called ‘Diorexquis’ – check out the full collection below.
Unveiled at Le Château de la Colle Noir, the beloved former home of M. Dior in the south of France, Dior’s latest high jewellery collection is a sparkling ode to the couturier’s enduring design legacy, as well as his well-known passions.
Victoire de Castellane, Dior’s artistic director for over a quarter of a century who spoke to Something About Rocks last year, is behind the latest collection – and it’s her biggest collection of high jewellery for the house to date.
The 163-piece-strong collection is named ‘Diorexquis’, a play on the brand and the term ‘exquisite’, consists of three glittering chapters which are dedicated to the themes of “enchanting landscapes, delicate bouquets and magical galas”, according to a statement from the brand.
As with each of Dior’s high jewellery reveals, the collection was unveiled with a dedicated fashion show, for which women’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri created 25 unique couture dresses, matched specifically to the jewels.
De Castellane draws heavily on the theme of nature throughout her pieces. Winter-themed items reflect ice with crystal formations reimagined into clusters of diamonds, while spring and summer ones see jewels fashioned into the shapes of bouquets of flora and fauna.
One of the collections standout pieces includes a jewel made with an “Opale doublet” technique – where an opal is mounted on a mother of pearl which creates a colour and texture reminiscent of the changing sky or the ocean. As it’s moved in the light, the colours of the jewel appear to flow and change .
The plique-à-jour method is another device used by the ateliers in this collection – a technique that creates sparkling colours by the use of lacquer. The technique is a Dior Joaillerie’s staple and mimics the effect of light streaming through a stained glass window.
Last year, Victoire de Castellane spoke about Dior’s latest My Dior jewellery to SAR and how they used the historic cannage pattern to inspire the collection.
Meanwhile, Dior featured heavily on last night’s Met Gala’s blue carpet, with celebrities including Anna Sawai, Monica Barbaro and Miranda Kerr all spotted wearing Dior.
