Henry Cavill went all out for his first ever big day of racing at Royal Ascot.
The Superman actor could be found in the Royal Enclosure, where the dress code has remained unchanged for centuries, and is just about the only place in the world outside of a wedding where you will find a top hat and tails.
Almost as old as the dress code was the watch Cavill was wearing on his wrist. Recently announced as an ambassador for Longines, the Man of Steel star went deep into the Swiss watchmaker’s vault for his Ascot piece. Literally, as the 1926 Longines Monopusher Chronograph was in their museum until earlier in the week.
Featuring Longines’ calibre 13.33Z, the first chronograph movement the company ever manufactured, the simply elegant watch has a spiral tachymeter scale and evoke feelings of a time long gone by.

Cavill also commented on the event and the watch on social media, writing: “Starched collars, top hats, and tails, just a regular day out at Royal Ascot with my friends at Longines. Honestly, this was such a magnificent experience; not only was it my first time at Ascot, but I had the privilege to see the Royal Family looking majestic in the parade ring, and the good fortune to wear a very special watch – Longines’ mono-pusher chronograph made in 1926. A watch 100 years old! Truly counting my blessings. What a day, what a day. Timeless British elegance and Swiss Precision.”

Earlier this year, Cavill fronted Longines’ campaign for their new 39mm HydroConquest.
Shot on location on the shores of Tenerife, the campaign showcases a relaxed-looking Cavill and some horsey friends (a signature Longines motif) hanging out in the surf. On his wrist, the star wields the sportier new HydroConquest – now available in a smaller 39mm size (there’s also a 42mm size available for the larger wristed among us).
Gently redesigned for a new era of fans by the heritage-heavy watchmaker, the HydroConquest now boasts crisp-looking applied indices with Super-LumiNova for improved legibility, plus some fresh colourways in different lacquered finishes (green, navy blue, black, and black with a blue bezel). There’s also a frosted blue sunray dial variant, as seen on Cavill, which is inspired by the play of light on ocean waves. Add in two different bracelet variations – including a slinky Milanese mesh iteration – and there are endless ways to wear this new self-winding mechanical watch.
The piece also features a reworked unidirectional rotating bezel, a feature borrowed from Longines’ Ultra-Chron Diver model, for a satisfyingly tactile feeling. And there’s a new Super-LumiNova capsule at the time ‘0’ position on the bezel, allowing super visibility in all light conditions – whether you’re wearing it for snorkelling at the surface or for a deeper, Superman-like dive (the watches are water resistant down to 300 metres).
