As collectors descend on Berkeley Square for PAD London, which opens today, a healthy cohort of luxury jewellers will be peppered across the art and design fair, using the event to reach an international audience of buyers who they might not otherwise access through traditional jewellery events.
Running at Berkeley Square until 18 October, PAD brings together 66 exhibitors from 15 countries across contemporary and historical design, decorative arts and jewellery. The fair takes place alongside Frieze and other major art events, during one of the most important weeks in London’s international cultural calendar. Jewellery’s presence extends across the city, with De Beers presenting an installation exploring the birth of natural diamonds at Frieze Masters, while Selfridges is introducing 13 Sarabande jewellers to private clients through events at 40 Duke.
This year’s jewellery exhibitors at PAD include Buccellati, Fernando Jorge, Hemmerle, Elie Top, Glenn Spiro, Karry Berreby and Second Petale Jewellery Gallery. Greek jeweller Nikos Koulis is also making his PAD London debut, presenting his Oui and Wish high jewellery collections.
Fernando Jorge returns with new pieces from his Armour and High Armour series, characterised by contrasts between ebony and white opal. Hemmerle will present jewels combining vibrant coloure gemstones, found objects and unconventional materials, while Elie Top’s display incorporates ancient diamonds from the Greek island of Kythira alongside amethysts, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
Buccellati has commissioned French-Lebanese interior designer Chahan Minassian to create its stand, bringing together jewellery and silverware in an environment inspired by the house’s Milan flagship. The Richemont-owned maison will introduce additions to its Macri, Opera Tulle and Torsadé jewellery collections alongside sculptural silver objects.
