Ever aware of the soft power of a perfectly placed jewel, Catherine Princess of Wales arrived at the 2026 Festival of Remembrance in London wearing a pair of meaningful, but rarely seen pendant earrings.
The Princess chose to wear the diamond ‘Orbital’ pendant earrings, which once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth.
Little is known of their provenance, but the sparkling jewels feature a diamond cluster stud with a floral motif and a pendant of four graduating-sized diamonds, all framed with further brilliants (which is why they are also known as Queen Elizabeth’s ‘Frame’ earrings).
The late Queen wore them in public on just a handful of occasions, including to the State Opening of Parliament in 2012, when she paired them with the Diamond Diadem (officially known as George IV’s State Diadem) that she wore to all State Openings. Queen Elizabeth also wore them the following June, when she appeared at Garter Day in Windsor.
Catherine herself has worn the earrings several times over the past decade – she first wore them in public in 2016 at a school awards ceremony in London. Since then, she has worn them at the 2017 Trooping the Colour ceremony, at the wedding of Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank in 2018, and for her official 40th birthday portraits in 2022.
Last year, Catherine wore the earrings to a State Banquet at Windsor Castle held in honour of the President of the United States, a glittering affair for which she also wore one of her her favourite headpieces, Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara and a gilded Philippa Lepley gown.
The Prince and Princess of Wales joined King Charles and Queen Camilla, who had just returned from their official tour of the Caribbean, plus other senior members of the Royal Family, for the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Albert Hall, which each year pays tribute to the armed forces and commemorates all victims of armed conflict.
Tomorrow, the Royal Family will venture out again for the annual Remembrance Sunday memorial service at The Cenotaph in central London.
