Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are back in the UK and it hasn’t taken them long to get back in the swing of things.
Since swapping Los Angeles for London this summer, they have kept a relatively low profile with this outing to Nottingham their first official joint engagement together since their return to the UK.
For the event, which saw the Duke and Duchess show support for The Community Recording Studio, a charity providing access to music, they received a very warm reception from a Nottingham crowd with Meghan presented with flowers from fans.
Markle could also be seen wearing a stripped down and simple jewellery ensemble. As well as her Welsh gold wedding and band and some other simple gold rings, Markle chose to wear the Cartier Tank watch that previously belonged to Princess Diana.
Markle wears the watch loosely on her wrist and it has become a steadfast part of her attire in recent years, having started wearing it in 2020 for her Time portrait. Since then, she has worn it to official charity engagement as well as family outings and even a hike in the California mountains.
The watch itself has an interesting history. Diana herself was a big Cartier fan, frequently wearing their watches and jewellery throughout the 1980’s but this particular Tank did not become a part of her wardrobe until after her divorce from the now King Charles III in 1996, the same year the model was released.
Diana was seen wearing it to a visit to the White House and at events in London but it is not known if she bought the watch herself.
After Diana tragically died in Paris in 1999, the watch was inherited by Prince William with Harry receiving her sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
It was reported that the brothers would later swap heirlooms with William wanting to give the future Catherine, Princess of Wales Diana’s ring when he proposed.
Since their return to the UK, Markle has been more public facing than her husband as she was recently spotted going for a lunch at The Park near their former home of Kensington Palace.
For the outing, Markle wore an affordable blazer from Marks & Spencer along with a vintage Chanel bag paired with her trusty Lovers Duet Diamond and Emerald Chain Necklace from Logan Hollowell.
Made out of 14 karat yellow gold, the elegant piece features an oval emerald weighing 1.3 carats and a white diamond totalling 0.9 carats. The emerald holds particular significance for Markle as it is the birthstone of her son, Archie.
Markle was also seen wearing the necklace recently during an event at Claridge’s with activist Malala Yousafzai, while it was also around her neck for an engagement in Geneva where she unveiled an art installation called The Lost Screen Memorial, which is about the dangerous and potentially fatal consequences of online bullying.
