Penélope Cruz received the TIFF Special Tribute Award on Sunday night at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. The award was presented by Chanel, for which Cruz is a long-standing ambassador. She wore a black column gown with a scoop neck and narrow straps, together with a graduated diamond necklace featuring a central cluster and suspended diamond drop.
On Sunday night the Spanish actress wore Garatti jewellery featuring a necklace in white gold with a 30.67 carat diamond and 2.60 carat Fancy Green diamond from the Anima Collection. Her earrings were in white gold with 4.40 carat diamonds and 0.08 carat ruby and a ring in white gold with a 5 carat Fancy Green diamond. She wore the suite of jewels as she picked up her lifetime achievement award at the 8th Annual TIFF Tribute Awards during the 2026 Toronto Film Festival.

Garatti are renowned for their incredible collection of green diamonds, some of the rarest gems available. Prices for the pieces are available on request. The Italian brand was founded in 2018 by Milena Bernocco and her son Nicolas Garatti, both gemologists and fancy diamond specialists.

In October this year Cruz appears in La Bola Negra (The Black Ball), the highly anticipated new feature from acclaimed Spanish directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, which premiered in Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It was inspired by one of Federico García Lorca’s unfinished works and the film intertwines the lives of three men across three different eras, exploring desire, sexuality, pain and inheritance. It is anticipated to be one of the biggest foreign language films of 2026 and also a potential award winner next year.

Cruz has been a Chanel ambassador since 2018. The house dresses her for almost every major red carpet event. At the Bunker premiere at last week’s Venice Film Festival on 8 September she wore Chanel high jewellery from the Reach for the Stars collection: the Be the One earrings, 320 diamonds in white gold, and the Sky Is the Limit ring, an 11.11-carat emerald-cut yellow diamond flanked by two sculpted lion heads. The lion was Gabrielle Chanel’s star sign and remains a constant in the house’s collections.
The Tribute Awards, sponsored by Rolex are TIFF’s fundraising gala and the first stop of a busy awards season, the next stop is the Emmys tonight. The other honourees this year were Helen Mirren, Isabelle Huppert, Rosalind Eleazar, Fan Bingbing, Seth Rogen and the director Lee Chang-dong. Cruz’s award recognised her career rather than a single film. She currently stars in Bunker, Florian Zeller’s thriller with Javier Bardem.
The necklace was the standout piece. A full diamond necklace on a black column dress is the choice for a major award, she’s upped and refined her look knowing she’ll be in the fashion press’s pages the next morning. It’s the jewellery an award winner wears, not just a guest.
