This is all thanks to the sudden appearance of Leonardo DiCaprio, whose image appears several times during the new film. The partnership comes just a week ahead of the 2025 Oscars ceremony, and a little over a month before the next Watches & Wonders industry fair in Geneva.

The actor and sustainability advocate has been confirmed as the latest star to join the Rolex ‘family’ as an ambassador (which the brand likes to refer to as a ‘testimonee’), joining a pantheon of other modern greats including top athletes (Roger Federer, Coco Gauff, Scott Brash), adventurers (Alain Hubert, Ed Viesturs, Dawa Yangzum Sherpa) and artists, including the film directors James Cameron and Martin Scorsese, both previous DiCaprio collaborators.

According to Rolex’s website, Oscar winner DiCaprio has been selected “for his powerful on-screen portrayals, ranging from historical figures to complex fictional characters” as well as his commitment to “combating climate change and preserving the environment”.

Indeed, the ‘Titanic’, ‘Romeo + Juliet’ and ‘The Revenant’ star is an outspoken advocate for environmental issues and founded his own eponymous foundation in 1998, when he was just 24 years old, to raise awareness about climate change. So far, the foundation has reportedly awarded over $80million in grants to environmental projects based in over 50 countries. DiCaprio has also produced documentaries such as The 11th Hour (2007) and the National Geographic film, Before The Flood (2016) to promote the dire need for sustainability, and serves on several boards, including those of the World Wildlife Fund and the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
In 2023, it was announced that DiCaprio had invested in the pioneering eco-watch brand ID Genève, which creates luxury watches based on principles of the circular economy, using ethically-sourced and recycled materials. However, the actor is also a longstanding Rolex fan, having been spotted wearing Daytona models in the past.
With just a week to go to the Academy Awards, all eyes will surely be on his gleaming wrist candy, as well as all the gleaming statuettes…
