Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh wore a set of demi-fine gold jewellery by one of her favourite Italian designers for the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Check out all the details below.
The closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games brought an electric atmosphere to The Hydro in Glasgow on Sunday night, and Sophie, Duchess of Wessex brought out a suitable ensemble to match.
The royal, who attended the ceremony alongside her husband Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, wore a silky, electric blue dress by Gabriela Hearst, complemented with some of her favourite fine gold jewels.
Sophie sparkled in a pair of gold floral earrings by one of her most worn jewellers, Giulia Barela. The Rome-based brand is the contemporary maker behind many of the Duchess’s favourite fail-safe pieces, such as the gold Africa ring (which she also wore to the ceremony), a pair of lacy Drop earrings (which she wore to a charity Christmas event last year), and her Poetica earrings, which she wore to an official visit to Malta in 2024. Renowned one of the most consistent and hardest working members of the Royal Family, Duchess Sophie has worn many these repeat pieces to official functions and events across the globe.
This weekend, the Duchess sported her floral Duranta earrings with a Giulia Barela Primula ring and her much-adored Africa ring. She styled these with a yellow gold T Square bracelet by Tiffany & Co., for more of a layered look, and a Loewe wristwatch.
Elsewhere, Princess Catherine of Wales also wore a favourite pair of pearl earrings by London jeweller Annoushka as she attended the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with her family.
Attending the netball semi-finals with her children, the Princess kept things sporty but relaxed in her time-tested fashion formula of smart separates, including a white striped sweater vest and pleated ankle-length skirt, topped with a racing green cashmere blazer from Ralph Lauren.
Much like the Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Catherine accessorised with a favourite pair of earrings – this time Baroque pearl drops by London jeweller Annoushka Ducas. She has previously worn the versatile and hardworking drops to many public events, including on a rare joint engagement with her son Prince George earlier this year, on a visit to communities in Southport last year and to a lunch party to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles in Windsor in 2023.
The freshwater pearl drops, which are mounted on 18K gold loops and retail for £450, are amongst the Princess’ most worn pairs of earrings. Designed to be mixed and matched, the drops are amongst Annoushka’s bestsellers and can be worn on gold hoop earrings, diamond huggies, or on a pendant.
Princess Catherine is now enjoying some family-centred down time after a busy schedule of summer events, which saw her appear court side at Wimbledon, at Royal Ascot, at Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter service, visiting The Christie Foundation NHS Trust cancer centre, plus hosting garden parties at Buckingham Palace alongside her husband, amongst other activities.
