From the infamous Little Blue Box, to little blue…bytes? Tiffany & Co. has just announced its debut in the realm of NFTs (non-fungible tokens), following in the footsteps of other luxury brands such as Burberry, Gucci and Louis Vuitton who are already embracing the digital metaverse.
The New York jeweller has partnered with the blockchain technology firm Chain to create a limited-edition ‘NFTiff’ pass, which gives holders the chance to create a custom Tiffany & Co. pendant, as well as to own a digital render of the jewel as an NFT, which comes with its own certificate of authenticity.

The new NFTiff pass is exclusively available to owners of a CryptoPunk avatar – the digital punk-inspired cartoon characters (themselves inspired by the British punk music scene, cyberpunk fiction and the electronic musicians Daft Punk) that were first created in 2017 and are credited with helping to kickstart the current NFT craze.
Tiffany’s designers will work with the 87 attributes and 159 available colours that appear across the collection of 10,000 Cryptopunk NFTs to transform them into physical (and very precious) pendants, each crafted from 18k rose or yellow gold and set with at least 30 gemstones and/ or diamonds to create a perfect likeness. The pendants will come attached to an adjustable chain made up of rectangular links inspired by the shape of digital pixels.

“We are incredibly excited to announce the debut of NFTiff, bringing our clients the rare opportunity to turn CryptoPunks into custom Tiffany & Co. jewellery designs through a fully digital experience,” said Alexandre Arnault, Tiffany’s Executive Vice President, Product and Communication.
The idea for the project arose earlier this year, after Arnault shared a photo of a bejewelled interpretation of his own bespoke CryptoPunk (numbered 3167) on social media, which had been created for him by Tiffany’s artisans.
Each NFTiff will cost 30 ETH (a cryptocurrency, much like Bitcoin) and will be available from Tiffany’s dedicated NFT website.
