Timex are making increasingly high-end plays on the watch market with their latest offering, the Atelier GMT Première M1a, retailing for £1,100.
Powered by a Swiss-made automatic movement, the watch is emblematic of Timex trying to capture a more top of the range audience using better materials.
The Rolex-inspired design features a black dial surrounded by a split black and green bezel while the skeletonised case allows the wearer to see the movement.
More compact than previous entries into the Atelier range, the GMT is a modern travel watch that allows you to track two time zones while the dial also features Swiss LumiNova, making the hourmarkers easily legible in the dark.
While some may baulk at the idea of spending more than £1,000 on a Timex, it’s a good amount of watch for the money and a whole lot easier to get hold of than a Rolex with their pesky waiting times.
Timex are also known for their pop culture collaborations with the American brand recently revealing a watch to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Space Jam.

The Space Jam x Q Timex Limited Edition was restricted to just 1,000 pieces and perfectly captures the fun and nostalgia of the movie and features Bugs Bunny, the Space Jam logo and a basketball net on the dial. A basketball also features as the watch’s second hand, making it appear as if Bugs is shooting into the basket.
Sure to be a popular collectors item, the watch is stainless steel and keeps Timex’s classic Q silhouette while the caseback is engraved to celebrate the 30th anniversary. The blue bezel also adds to the cosmic aesthetic befitting Space Jam’s Moron Mountain setting.
Amusingly, the watch also has glow in the dark capabilities. Keeping with Timex’s classic construction, the collaboration has a day-and-date window at 3 o’clock and a functional battery hatch.
Timex currently have a number of other pop culture collaborations on the market including a wide and varied Peanuts series featuring Snoopy in a variety of different looks including the Marlin and like the Space Jam watch, the Q.
Timex also produce an extensive Harry Potter collection that combines the brand’s Weekender range with each of the Hogwarts houses as well as other items associated with the series.
Elsewhere, Timex are producing watches in collaboration with Fortnite and the popular Netflix series, Wednesday, both of which make use of the brand’s Perfect Fit technology.
