Venice might actually topple Cannes for the most glamorous film festival on the circuit. Certainly, Cannes has the attention and the prestige and the type of swagger only the French can pull off but then Venice is all about history and aesthetics. The sight of the biggest stars in the world boating it to a screening or bobbing along on a gondola to get to a red carpet surrounded by buildings hundreds of years old is something that can only happen in the iconic Italian city.
It’s also a festival on the top of its watch game. With a-listers out in force on the 11 mile long Lido Island this year, the festival has featured everything from the rarest Jaeger-LeCoultre to brand new limited edition Cartier, all of which are dazzling.
With so many great watches on show, we have rounded up just some of the best pieces spotted at the festival so far this year.
George Clooney – Omega Speedmaster Aqua Terra

George Clooney has been the watch king of Venice this year, flaunting a couple of different Omega Speedmaster’s, well known as the Ocean’s 11 star’s favourite watch. Receiving the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award from the festival, it’s appropriate that Clooney decided to wear a watch he loves over something perhaps more over the top. The Aqua Terra retails for a relatively affordable £6,200 and features a wonderfully eye-catching saffron-coloured dial.
Damien Chazelle – Cartier Crash Skeleton
Sam Rockwell was also spotted in the new Cartier Crash Skeleton but Damien Chazelle was also on the lido to celebrate the 10th anniversary of La La Land. This watch was announced earlier this year at Watches and Wonders to mark ten years of the Privé collection and the openworked dial is a new feature for the model, while the movement itself has also been reimagined. Only 150 pieces are being made meaning this is going to be highly sought after and was priced at £77,000 ($90,000).
Robert Pattinson – Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184

Freshly announced as a Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador, Robert Pattinson has wasted no time in raiding their archive for just about the rarest watch he can find. Just five of the Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184 were ever brought to market, making this one of the most exceptionally sought after watches in their history, and as a result is worth the best part of $1 million.
Tamara Kalinic – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Mini

Just 23mm, the mini version of the Royal Oak is suitably dainty and while you may not be getting a full watch, the price is still in the mid five figures. To make a big statement, Serbian blogger and social media influencer, Tamara Kalinic wore two of them, one in yellow gold and another in white, using them more as jewellery than an actual timepiece. The quartz timepieces are priced from £32,400 and increase in price according to the diamonds added.
Brooklyn Beckham – Patek Philippe Nautilus

Now that he is firmly on the outs with Brand Beckham, it is presumably his billionaire father-in-law that is funding Brooklyn’s watch collection and not the royalties from his ill-fated foray into photography and cooking. Nevertheless, the eldest Beckham son has inherited his father’s fine taste for watches, elsewhere being seen in a Rolex Day-Date during the festival. But it’s this 18 karat Nautilus that steals the show and with this particular model discontinued, it has become an especially collectible piece. Prices start for these beautiful watches at around £65,000 on the secondary market.
Sydney Sweeney – Cartier Baignoire
The oft-divisive Euphoria star turned serial entrepreneur has been seen in a couple of different Cartier models during her time in Italy. But it’s hard to top the classic elegance of the oval-shaped Baignoire in yellow gold. At around £15,000, it exists at the junction between fine horology and high jewellery.
