The new year is the perfect excuse to have a good old clear out – a fact that’s apparently not lost on Sir Elton John. This February, the iconic singer will be clearing house and putting many of his possessions up for auction at Christie’s in New York, including his very own Cartier Crash watch.

Property from the musician’s former Atlanta home will be sold this February in a series of eight sales, taking place both live and online. Named ‘The Collection of Sir Elton John’, the entire auction has been curated by the singer and his husband, David Furnish, and will feature a host of fashion pieces, artworks, photographs, jewellery, watches and memorabilia collected during the course of his legendary career.
Among the highlights of the sale will be the singer’s own 18k yellow gold limited edition Cartier Crash timepiece, which carries an estimate of US$70,000-100,000.

The infamously wavy timepiece will be sold during one of the eight ‘The Collection of Elton John’ sales called ‘The Jewel Box’, which will take place online between 9th February until 27th February, 2024.
Other highlights of the 123-lot sale include a vintage Cartier jabot pin in diamond, emerald and coral with a dragon motif (perfect to celebrate The Year of the Dragon, perhaps?) with an estimate of $4,000-6,000; a delicate dragonfly shaped pin by Van Cleef & Arpels (estimated at $3,000-5,000); a ruby and diamond gold snake headed bracelet by British jeweller Theo Fennell (estimated at $3,000-5,000); and chunky gold and gemstone cocktail rings by the likes of Stephen Webster (estimated at $4,000-6,000), and Chanel (estimated at $6,000-8,000).
Brooches, bracelets and pendant necklaces abound too, by makers such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, David Yurman, Hermès, Gucci, Chopard, Repossi, De Grisogono, De Beers and Chrome Hearts.
So it’s Goodbye Peachtree Road, and hello to a fabulous new year sale. Collectors, on your marks…
