Chaumet’s latest high jewellery collection, Un Air de Chaumet, was yet another feather in the cap of the Place Vendôme jeweller’s over two hundred and forty-year dialogue between precious materials and the natural world.

Inspired by Empress Joséphine’s favourite animal – birds, the four-chapter collection includes a series of hair ornaments, ear cuffs and brooches created in rose gold, white gold and grain-set diamonds, sculpted into literal and figurative images of swallows in flight as they soar from earth to sky. Each suite takes jewellery lovers on a journey through movement as these reimagined birds spread their golden wings to display their detailed plumage as they take off from land, loop through the air and dive back towards Earth.

Each piece in the collection is reminiscent of a sculpture, using a variety of textures, tones and gem cuts to bring to life these winged creatures and the elegance of their movements in flight. Brushed and polished gold are juxtaposed to create luscious and full plumage, diamonds are set using the grain-setting technique – the process by which small holes are drilled close together in the surface of the metal in which gems are then set- to create sparkling bodies and tails, whilst larger diamonds in the shape of Joséphine’s favourite stone-cut, the pear, is used to accent the smaller round-brilliant diamond ensembles of each piece.

What’s more, the famous Coco Rocha was chosen as the face of this exciting new collection. Having been a friend of the maison for many years, she is the perfect match to model each of these eight one-of-a-kind creations, considering her mastery of dance, countless graceful runway walks and silver screen performances.
A whirlwind of movement in gold and diamond, this collection is a breath of fresh air on the high jeweller scene.
