Last night, the great and good of the fashion world flocked to New York’s Metropolitan Museum for the annual Met Gala, held at the Costume Institute. And, as expected, there were some fabulous jewels to be seen on the red carpet.
This year’s theme, ‘Fashion is Art’, encouraged celebrities to explore “depictions of the dressed body across the Met’s vast collection, pairing garments with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body” and to “express their own relationship to fashion as an embodied art form and celebrate the countless depictions of the dressed body throughout art history”.

Arriving fashionably late, and on the arm of her dapper partner A$AP Rocky, Rihanna channelled a look that didn’t disappoint. She donned a custom sculptural dress from Maison Margiela by Glenn Martens for the affair, complete with an Art Deco-style headpiece of curled gold wire.
Entirely hand-sculpted using recycled metal threads normally used in computer wiring, Rihanna’s gown featured a corseted bodice embroidered with over 115,000 crystal beads, antique jewels, and chains – a task that required over 1,300 hours of skilled craftsmanship.
Shining bright like a diamond (sorry, not sorry!), Rihanna also used her jewellery to pay tribute to the work of talented makers, layering up a selection of vintage pieces alongside jewellery from independent makers from around the world – a trend we’re increasingly seeing on high-profile red carpet events these days.
In her ears, the Umbrella singer layered up white and yellow gold and diamond ear cuffs by Briony Raymond, alongside a larger white gold and diamond cuff by designers Sarah Ysabel Narici at DYNE . She also wore earrings featuring a pair of pear-cut ‘desert diamonds’ (weighing a total of just over 29 carats) framed with pavé diamond jackets by London jeweller Glenn Spiro.
At the same time, Riri adorned herself with a handful of statement rings, including a 1930s platinum and diamond ring with a 3-carat central stone by the ‘if you know you know’ designer Suzanne Belperron, from Fred Leighton. These she matched to diamond drips attached to her tapered gold manicure, as well as sparkling crystal ‘tears’ and face jewels.
Proving that couples who dress on-theme together, stay together, A$AP Rocky glimmered in his own stash of fabulous, well-chosen bling. He paired a gilded and enamelled pomegranate clutch from Matthew Blazy’s second ready-to-wear collection for Chanel with a selection of colourful pieces from Codognato jewellery, including a skull pin, ‘Grim’ ring, crucifix pendany and custom ‘Grim de la Grim’ pendant necklace, plus diamond-set pieces from Chanel’s high jewellery collections.
With co-chair Beyoncé also arriving with her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay-Z, it seems this year’s Met Gala 2026 was a family affair, as well as a glittering one.
