JAY-Z rightfully has a reputation as one of the most prolific watch collectors anywhere in the world. He has been open about his love of timepieces more than most and unlike many, he likes to celebrate them in public with the rap legend seen wearing multi-million dollar watches to simple public events.
And when it comes to a really special occasion, Hov knows how to step it up.
Over the last week, the rap legend has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt with a trio of historic shows at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
As well as a stunning array of guests including Eminem, Rihanna and Beyonce showing up, the Roc Nation founder delved deep into his watch collection to bring out some holy grails.
On the first night, Jay wore a Rolex Daytona ref. 6270, one of the most decadent watches the legendary watchmaker has ever produced. This particular watch is one of the most expensive Rolex ever made and features 28 baguette-cut diamonds around the bezel and a seemingly endless amount on the dial.

Only eight pieces are known to exist and this one was made for the Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman back in the 1980s. About as rare a piece as it is possible to get outside of a complete one-off, these only become available once in a blue moon and one was sold at auction for a staggering $5.2 million last October with the value coming from both its scarcity on the market and the amount of gemstones on the watch.
Night two saw Jay bring out the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance wheel Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50’ ceramic Skeleton which was an appropriate choice given wear he was performing. The case and bezel are Yankee pinstripe blue and made out ceramic while the open-worked skeleton dial shows off the Double Balance wheel for some technical wizardry. A drop in the ocean compared to night one’s watch, the Audemars can be bought for just shy of half a million dollars after it was unveiled last year during Watches & Wonders.
For the final show, which was delayed by several hours following a security breach, Jay stunned with a more than 20-year-old Richard Mille RM 009 Felipe Massa Tourbillon which was designed with its namesake Formula 1 driver. The racing inspired piece is one of many Mille’s Jay has been seen wearing over the years, though this one is made out of a rare alluminium alloy named ALUSIC, meaning the piece weighs only 29 grams without the strap, making it the lightest tourbillion ever when it was made.
Only 25 were ever manufactured by Richard Mille and the value of the landmark watch has skyrocketed in recent years. Originally retailing for $350,000, it is now said to be worth ten times that at auction.
