Our winter 2025 cover star, Lisa Vicari, has opened up about working with Idris Elba in the next season of Hijack.
The actress and Cartier ambassador spoke to Kim Parker for issue 14 of Something About Rocks – the ‘Love’ issue – which sees Vicari wearing Cartier’s bold new iteration of the ‘Love’ bracelet on the cover.
Vicari opened up about starring in the new season of Hijack, Apple TV’s hit show – which returns to screens in the new year. Vicari is one of several new cast members that have joined the high-octane drama alongside its returning lead, Idris Elba, who played Sam Nelson in the first season – a skilled business negotiator unwittingly caught up in the hijacking of a commercial airline.
One of Apple TV’s most-watched dramas of 2023, the show was also executively produced by Elba, who scored a Primetime Emmy nomination for his captivating portrayal of Nelson. When the streamer announced in January last year that a second season of Hijack was on the cards, fans immediately went into overdrive, trying to predict potential plot lines and co-stars. Thus far, the storyline has been kept strictly under wraps – all Elba has previously confirmed is that it wouldn’t be a repeat of the previous season.
Vicari said of the new show: “From what I have seen, it’s going to be very suspenseful. I’m looking forward to finally being able to watch it all come together myself.”
Speaking about Elba, she said: “He’s a man of so much charisma. When he steps on a set, he has such a presence,” she notes. “Before [Hijack], I’d never filmed in London, so it was beautiful to see the level of professionalism and skill here. We had a very nice atmosphere on set.”
She was also impressed with actor Toby Jones, who is one of the other new cast members on the show. Describing him as “iconic” she continued: “I was just grateful to be in the same room as him, watching him work. He has a very calm and beautiful aura that spreads to everyone.
“I realised, yet again because it’s not the first time I’ve thought this, how lovely it is to work with people who are nice to everybody.”
A ‘friend’ of the house of Cartier for “a few years now”, Vicari also discussed her “lovely, growing relationship” with the storied maison.
For our interview, Vicari wore two rings from the brand’s Trinity collection and also owns earrings from the same collection. “Rings are my favourite type of jewellery because, as someone who talks a lot with their hands, they make me feel powerful. Somehow, I feel like they give me strength. The older I get, the more I try to have just a few beautiful, timeless pieces that I can wear with anything.”
Vicari went on to say she also feels a particular affinity for the brand because “they have a great connection to film, and to the arts. They host a big event every year in Berlin, for example, at this big studio, Babelsberg, and they invite not only actors and actresses, but directors, set designers, costume makers. They’re interested in people that make our movies, and that means a lot to me,” she says.
Last year, Vicari travelled to Paris for a glittering gala to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Cartier’s iconic Trinity design. “Paul Mescal was there, and all these great people, other ambassadors, and I was too shy to talk to anyone, so I was just observing them all,” she recalls. “We all met on the dance floor later, though.”
