Nina Runsdorf is a native New Yorker whose Flip Ring has become an iconic piece. The Nina Runsdorf Flip Ring was in fact the original design that prompted her to start the brand in 2005. Now, it includes three sizes of ring which can be worn in a stackable fashion and are versatile in a variety of coloured gemstones. There are also Flip Charms, a Flip Necklace and a Flip Charm Bracelet, plus hoops.
“I’ve always believed that jewellery isn’t just a visual delight but that it should touch all the senses,” Runsdorf has said in the past. The Flip Ring was originally inspired by the mobile sculptures of Alexander Calder and has become something of a conversation-starter.

When Runsdorf was 12 she created her first jewellery collection on the kitchen table of her parent’s upstate farm. And after some time working in the fashion industry for several years she returned to jewellery, for which she had always had a strong affinity. Her knowledge of gemstones was acquired and furthered working alongside her father-in-law at Runsdorf Associates in New York’s diamond district. She also became GIA certified.

It was 2005 that she launched her first collection and trademarked the Flip Ring, for which she would get immediate recognition.
Come 2009 and Runsdorf would add Slice Diamonds to her line, a technique in which slices from other gemstones are used. Overall, her designs are vibrant and eclectic, inspired by the stones’ shape and colour.
