The Oasis reunion is in full swing, with the band playing their first gig together in 16 years this evening (July 4) at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
The band will perform a second gig at Cardiff tomorrow (July 5), before heading to their hometown of Manchester for five nights at Heaton Park, seven nights at Wembley Stadium ahead of stops in Edinburgh and Dublin. After that, the bend head to North America, South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
Online, fans have been remembering the time that Noel Gallagher gifted brother Liam a special chain – a necklace that was once owned by John Lennon.
Liam was gifted John Lennon’s famous ‘dreamcatcher’ necklace when the brothers were still on good terms.
Noel bought the coveted necklace especially for Liam after seeing it at an auction.
In 2007, Noel explained in an interview: “I bought him a few presents in the 90’s – I bought him a thing from an auction which was an Indian necklace thing that John Lennon wore when he went to see the Maharishi.”
“It’s worth a fortune, it was round the man’s neck when he wrote ‘Sexy Sadie’, so I sent it to him for Christmas and next time I saw him he had it on.
“He took it out the frame and the label saying worn by John Lennon. I said ‘what are you doing its f**king memorabilia,’ and he said ‘John Lennon wore it I’m wearing it.'”
He then joked: “He’s probably flushed it down the toilet by now I don’t know, haven’t seen it since.”
Later, Liam confirmed that he no longer had the necklace, leading many fans to think it was down to the ensuing rift between the band, when they split up ahead of a gig in France in 2009 – or, as Noel, predicted, that he’d lost it.
However, Liam later revealed to a fan on social media the reason behind it was far less sinister.
The fan asked: “Do you still have the John Lennon necklace that Noel gave you?” to which Liam replied: “No it’s in a museum.”
The talisman necklace belonged to John from 1967 and appeared in many photos of the musical legend.
Most famously, it was also the only thing he is seen wearing to be wearing in a nude photo for the cover of the Two Virgins album with wife Yoko Ono.
