Pharrell Williams has made a typically unforgettable appearance on this year’s 2025 Met Gala red carpet – wearing a custom Louis Vuitton look that included a jacket made of 100,000 pearls.
For 2025, the theme of the event was ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, inspired by the work of Monica Miller, a leading scholar of contemporary African American and Afro-diasporic literature and culture, and her 2009 work, ‘Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity’.
Previous themes have ranged from ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ (2015) – which examined the influence of Chinese art, film and culture on Western fashion – and ‘Camp’ (2019), to ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ from last year’s event.
This year, A$AP Rocky was co-chair of the Met Gala, alongside multi-hyphenate singer Williams, actor Colman Domingo, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and honorary co-chair, athlete LeBron James.
Pharrell, who is the current creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear, wore a double breasted pearl blazer that he designed himself for the event. As per Vogue, the jacket took 980 hours of work to make by his Vuitton design team and featured 100,000 pearls.
Pharrell teamed this up with jewellery for Tiffany & Co., for whom he has also previously designed collections.
Speaking to Vogue about his creation, Williams said: “To me, dandyism is about intentionality – a sport of getting dressed. It’s not just about dressing well; it’s about using style as a form of self-expression and freedom. Pearls have become a part of that for me, which is why I created a pearl double-breasted jacket for this look.”

Elsewhere at the Met Gala, Lewis Hamilton hit the red carpet wearing a striking jewellery look from Briony Raymond.
Hamilton, coming to the event straight from his weekend stint at the Miami GP, wore some Briony Raymond Asscher Cut Diamond Studs in 18 carat White Gold alongside a vintage, 1980s Fancy White, Yellow, and Pink Diamond Brooch in 18 carat rose, yellow and white gold.
Hamilton’s fashion look for the night was created by British designer Grace Wales Bonner who was herself on the Met committee this year and has several works in this year’s exhibition.
In other Met Gala news, A$AP Rocky was spotted wearing some standout vintage pieces also from Briony Raymond.
Colman Domingo also made headlines wearing a custom Valentino look alongside some Boucheron, while a brooch specially created for the Met Gala with a diamond worth $20 million also got its first outing.
