Princess Eugenie has just welcomed her third child and second girl with husband of eight years, Jack Brooksbank, with the twelfth in line to the throne now living in Portugal, largely away from the public eye.
She’s not known as a Royal with a reputation for large amount of ostentatious jewellery, certainly not compared to the likes of Catherine, Princess of Wales or Queen Camilla, with most of Eugenie’s big moments centred around her 2018 wedding, which featured some remarkable pieces.
Most of the pieces Eugenie wears have some emotional significance to them and we have rounded up five of the Princess’ best jewellery moments below.
Queen Elizabeth II’s Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara
Created in 1919, the tiara made in the Russian style, features an emerald reported to weigh more than 93 karats as well as brilliant and rose cut diamonds set in platinum in addition to six emeralds on either side of the piece. Made by Boucheron for Dame Margaret Greville, the tiara was gifted to the Queen Mother in 1942 before it was passed on to Elizabeth II. The Queen subsequently lent Eugenie the tiara for her big day. Reported to be valued at more than $13 million, it has only been worn twice publicly – by Eugenie on her wedding day and by Queen Camilla last year at a Windsor Castle dinner.
Rare Pink Padparadscha Sapphire Engagement Ring
Eugenie was proposed to in early 2018 while on holiday in Nicaragua with then-boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, who went all-out on the ring front. Eugenie’s engagement ring features a rare padparadscha sapphire with the gemstone likely sourced from Sri Lanka. The sought after stone has a pink-orange hue and appears a different colour depending on the light and the angle. The ring also honours royal tradition in that it is made out of Welsh gold. Though the price has never been officially revealed, it’s estimated the engagement ring cost at least £100,000, because of the rarity of the gemstone.
Emerald and Diamond Drop Earrings
On her wedding day in 2019, Eugenie wore a special pair of earrings that were a gift from her husband to be, Jack Brooksbank. Featuring diamonds and emeralds to pair with her tiara, the earrings were also worn during a private dinner hosted at Royal Lodge in the aftermath of the ceremony surrounded by close family and friends. The earrings were later put on public display.
Queen Victoria’s Wheat-Ear Brooches
At her wedding reception, Eugenie wore three of Queen Victoria’s six diamond wheat-ear brooches. Originally commissioned by King William IV, the brooches were passed down to Victoria and eventually Queen Elizabeth II who loaned them to Eugenie for her big day in 2018. The brooches can also be worn as hair ornaments, which is how Eugenie fashioned them, just as Elizabeth II did for her famous visit to America in 1981.
Diamond, Emerald and Aquamarine Earrings
Princess Eugenie has worn these earrings at both Royal Ascot and Cheltenham last year, suggesting they have significant meaning to her. Seemingly set with diamonds, emeralds and aquamarine, they feature the birthstones of both Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, indicating they could have been a gift and one she keeps for big public occasions like appearing in the royal parade at big horse racing meets.
