It’s been over six decades since Holly Golightly (played by the inimitable Audrey Hepburn) gazed longingly into the windows of Tiffany & Co. in the 1961 film, ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s‘. Yet the New York jeweller’s relationship with Hollywood remains steadfast, judging by the glittering trove of Tiffany & Co. pieces which can be glimpsed in the new remake of ‘Frankenstein‘, due out this week.

This latest collaboration sees 27 Tiffany jewels and objects used throughout the latest on-screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic novel, which has been written and directed by Oscar-winning maestro Guillermo del Toro (of ‘The Shape of Water‘ and ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ fame) and stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the ‘Creature’, alongside Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz.
The film debuts in select theatres on October 17th and will be released globally on Netflix on November 7th.

For the first time, rarely-seen diamond jewels from Tiffany & Co.’s own archive, including necklaces, brooches and a pocket watch, will share screen time with some of its contemporary pieces, helping to give the film’s rich costumes a sense of historical realism. The selection was made by Del Toro, the the film’s visionary costume designer, Kate Hawley, and Christopher Young, head of the Tiffany archives.

Vintage pieces include the diamond and platinum ‘Wade’ necklace which is worn by Elizabeth, Victor Frankenstein’s fiancée (played by Mia Goth). Crafted in 1900 for the American heiress Ellen Garretson Wade, the piece is a stunning example of the intricate ‘Garland style’ necklaces that adorned the beau monde at the turn of the last century, and were crafted in a brand new material – silvery white platinum, which made the perfect setting for sparkling diamonds. Its appearance in the film marks the first time the piece has appeared on the big screen – much like the appearance of Tiffany’s yellow Tiffany Diamond in the 2020 film, ‘Death on the Nile‘, marked the first emergence of that storied gem (at least a facsimile of it) at the cinema.

‘Frankenstein’ also represents the first partnership between Netflix and a luxury jeweller and to celebrate, a free exhibition entitled ‘Frankenstein: Crafting A Tale Eternal’ will be on display at The Old Selfridges Hotel in London from 17th October to 9th November. Visitors will be able to view shimmering recreations of the vintage Tiffany & Co jewels and objects seen in the film, alongside original costumes, artefacts and artworks.

In New York, visitors to Tiffany & Co’s Fifth Avenue Flagship, The Landmark, will be able to view a spectacular ‘Frankenstein‘-inspired display created in collaboration with Guillermo Del Toro. Each cinematic store window reimagines a scene from the new film, blending digital displays and the film’s musical score with the brand’s signature whimsy and sparkling jewels. Plus, QR codes on the windows will allow viewers to unlock exclusive behind-the-scenes content about the film.
Perfect for spooky season.
