Premier League footballers like watches. A lot. After all, what else can they spend the hundreds of thousands of pounds they make a week on? As such, footballers are even lapping Hollywood stars on the watch front, boasting the biggest and baddest collections out there.
There are also trends. Having a Patek Philippe Nautilus is basically a given if you play for a Premier League team while the same brand’s Aquanaut has become a popular choice among the league’s finest.
But then there are also players who collect for the love of the game, who have amassed incredibly rare pieces and love to wear them.
With the Premier League season returning this weekend, we’ve taken a look at some of the stars with the best watch games in the country. Take a look below.
Erling Haaland
After taking America by storm at the World Cup this summer, Haaland is back at Manchester City ready to break more goalscoring records. The Norwegian can also boast one of the biggest and baddest watch collections, not just in football by anywhere. An ambassador for Breitling, he is also known to be one of the lucky few to own a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Black Panther as well as one of the rarest Rolex’s in the Daytona Rainbow. That’s without mentioning the seemingly endless supply of Patek Philippe’s he has to hand.
Cole Palmer
He may be coming off a rough year plagued by injuries and a shortage of form but Cole Palmer is still a one man Richard Mille factory. The Chelsea forward naturally has expensive taste and has been snapped wearing both the ultra-lightweight RM 30-01 which will set you back around £400,000 and RM 67-02, a watch most notably worn by Lewis Hamilton on his debut with Ferrari a couple of years ago. Palmer, like most footballers, is also a fan of the Patek Phillippe Nautilus and owns a few different models.
Declan Rice
Not as flashy as most of the other names on this list, Declan Rice always quietly goes about his business, being the beating heart of both Arsenal and England’s midfield. Despite his general aversion to ego maniacal antics, Rice likes a flash watch, recently spending more than half a million on the brand new Richard Mille RM 55-01 Automatic Winding in white Quartz TPT. It’s not the first Richard Mille in his collection either as he previously splashed £200,000 on a 67-01, which is Rice’s favourite piece and a favourite of other footballers including Mo Salah.
Hugo Ekitike
The currently injured Liverpool striker has only been in England a year but has quickly made a splash with his watch game. While he possesses footballer staples such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (in green with a skeleton dial) and the Patek Philippe Aquanaut, he has also been more ambitious with his style, opting for colourful Chopard pieces and even vintage AP’s from the 1980’s. Ekitike has also been spotted wearing the incredibly rare and obscenely expensive Richard Mille RM 38-02 Bubba Watson Tourbillon which is impossible to miss as its bright pink and costs $3 million.
Marcus Rashford
Back in Manchester after a year on loan to Barcelona, Marcus Rashford has plenty to prove on the pitch but nothing to prove in the watch department. He’s long had one of the best watch games around with a collection that boasts at least four Richard Mille’s, a Patek Philippe Nautilus that has been customised to look like the one-off Virgil Abloh designed piece Drake owns and an endless parade of luxury Rolex’s.
Virgin Van Dijk
The titanic Liverpool captain is a hunter of grails. He likes rare pieces such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked that’s worth more than half a million. He owns both the Spider-Man and Black Panther versions of the Royal Oak. He also boasts a completely unique customised Royal Oak in Liverpool colours. You’re probably noticing a pattern here. He might as well be called Mr. Royal Oak.
Bukayo Saka
The oft-injured Arsenal and England winger is coming of a Premier League title victory but also a desperately disappointing World Cup campaign but is more consistent off the pitch. The diminutive star has all the staples like the Nautilus and the Aquanaut but his standout pieces come from Audemars Piguet with a particularly nice all white Royal Oak as well as an Arsenal themed jumbo which he wore to their trophy parade. He’s also a big fan of Rolex’s GMT-Master II, owning at least four different models.
