Tiffany & Co. have re-imagined their iconic ‘Bird on a Rock’ design in an eye-catching new High and Fine jewellery collection – check them out below.
Tiffany has re-imagined famed designer Jean Schlumberger’s iconic ‘Bird on a Rock’ motif through the lens of Nathalie Verdeille, the Chief Artistic Officer of Jewellery and High Jewellery at Tiffany & Co.
The collection includes new High Jewellery suites and sees the debut of the designs in the fine jewellery category too, which, as per a press release from Tiffany & Co. “celebrate the soaring optimism and boundless potential of love.”
It continues: “At the heart of the Bird on a Rock collection is the wing motif – graceful, sculptural and symbolic. Inspired by the layered beauty and delicate tension of a bird’s plumage, the designs take flight in radiant diamonds and precious metals.”
In a statement, Verdeille said: “For the high jewelry ‘Bird on a Rock’ designs, we studied birds as Jean Schlumberger did – carefully observing their stances, their feathers, the structures of their wings – to create dynamic forms that seem to flutter and perch upon the wearer.
“For the fine jewellery collection, we looked at this bird from another perspective, distilling it down to its essence – the wing – and stylising the motif into elegant, abstract patterns. These sculptural forms intertwine and unfold in textural creations that are as abstract as they are symbolic.”
You can see the designs here:
One of the High Jewellery suites is centred around tanzanites – a Tiffany & Co. “legacy gemstone” that the House introduced in 1968 – while the other celebrates turquoise, a gemstone deeply embedded in Tiffany & Co.’s design heritage.
They added in a statement: “The use of turquoise is also a nod to Jean Schlumberger, who featured the gemstone in high jewellery, juxtaposing it in surprising ways, such as with diamonds. The tanzanite suite features a striking necklace, bracelet and earrings. The turquoise suite is anchored by a statement necklace featuring a diamond bird that appears to grasp strands of cabochon turquoise, accented with gold and diamond feathers throughout.”
They concluded: “As with all Tiffany & Co. collections, love remains at the heart of ‘Bird on a Rock’. Each unique piece serves as an inspiration for those embarking on their journey, whether solo or together – a beautiful reminder that the sky is the limit for those who dare to soar. Breaking free from limitations, the ‘Bird on a Rock’ collection is designed for dreamers.
In a post on social media, Tiffany also elaborated on Schlumberger’s original designs.
They wrote: “‘Bird on a Roc’k was designed in 1965 by legendary designer Jean Schlumberger for his lifelong friend, philanthropist, Bunny Mellon. It was at her estate in Virginia, amongst her bucolic gardens and artful interiors, that Schlumberger found inspiration to create many of his masterpieces, among them, the ‘Bird on a Rock’ brooch featuring a yellow and white diamond bird perched on a cabochon lapis lazuli…More than 60 years later, the story continues with a new collection inspired by the original, designed by Chief Artistic Officer Nathalie Verdeille and featured on House ambassador Zhang Ziyi.”
The collection is available now at select Tiffany & Co. stores.
In other news, Tiffany and Co. this week (September 17) unveiled one of the highlights of its Blue Book 2025 – an exclusive ‘Starfish’ watch.
A statement said the timepiece “draws direct inspiration from an iconic pearl and diamond Starfish brooch found within The Tiffany Archives.”
It added: “The design reimagines the starfish motif through a contemporary lens, showcasing Schlumberger’s signature blend of naturalism and abstraction. It captures the essence of the starfish in a modern and elegant way.”
In other Tiffany & Co. news, earlier this year, Dua Lipa dazzled in Tiffany & co. jewellery for her latest music video ‘Handlebars’ with Blackpink’s Jennie.
Showcasing the effortless glamour she’s known for, Dua layered multiple iconic Tiffany collections, proving that when it comes to diamonds, more is definitely more. Dua Lipa previously wore Tiffany & Co. diamonds at her appearance at the Met Gala in 2023.
The Blue Book 2025 was also launched during a star-studded event in New York, which saw the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy in attendance.
