David Beckham has been a Tudor ambassador for almost a decade and in that timespan he has become synonymous with their watches.
Rarely spotted in public or one of the many, many adverts he endorsed during this year’s FIFA World Cup without one, Beckham is the optimal case of a partnership between a brand and a celebrity.
Often used to reveal their watches in the wild, Beckham, in his unofficial role as ambassador to the world, journeyed to Macau, China for an NBA game taking place overseas in the basketball mad nation.
For the trip, he packed with him the newer than new Tudor Northflag.
Only officially announced by the company last month, the watch is an update on the almost identically named North Flag which was previously discontinued back in 2021 due to low sales.
This update, named after the British North Greenland Expedition of 1952, for which Tudor supplied the watches, is principally designed to be a tool watch. With a distinct field watch aesthetic and a GMT function, the new Northflag also contains an additional hour hand and 24 hour indicator.
Design wise, there’s a simple black face with a neat yellow seconds hands while luminous hours make the watch useful if you’re adventuring away in the dark.
Currently available only through Tudor boutiques, the Northflag is on the market for £4,310.
Beckham has had a historic run this year with his watches as he has been everywhere from the World Cup to Wimbledon to adverts for the likes of Walker’s, Stella Artois and Hugo Boss.
Arguably the best watch he donned over the summer was the new Tudor Black Bay 58 while at Centre Court with his mother.
The Black Bay is one of Tudor’s most popular models and the new version keeps the classic features while giving it a sportier twist. Slimmed down to 39mm, the watch is smaller than past references, keeping it on trend as smaller watches become in vogue.
A relatively simple watch for Beckham, who can have ostentatious taste (including the custom diamond studded Tudor he was seen wearing on Centre Court last year), the Black Bay 58 is perfectly suited to the occasion with Wimbledon preferring class over flash.
David is not the only Beckham with an eye for horology either, Romeo has been doing his dad proud this year, especially when he prominently appeared at Wimbledon.
With Romeo not confined by brand sponsorship deals, he has been doing his best to keep up with his old man with a slew of Cartier’s and the odd Richard Mille.
But after initially debuting at Wimbledon with the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the younger Beckham whipped out the legendary Rolex Daytona for a return trip to Centre Court.
Sporting a turquoise dial and Oysterflex bracelet, this highly sought after model retails for around £35,000 and comes with a pretty lengthy waiting time, unless you’re a Beckham.
It’s not the first time Beckham has given his Daytona a spin in public either as he was spotted wearing it last year when he stopped by an Inter Miami game with his father (who co-owns the team).
