This morning, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, joined her husband, Prince William, for a ceremonial welcome to kick-off the two-day visit of Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani.
For the occasion, Middleton dipped into the late Queen Elizabeth II’s jewellery box with a diamond and pearl strand choker necklace. Princess Diana also previously wore the same necklace during a state banquet in the Netherlands in 1982. The piece has an estimated worth of $26,300 (£23,000).

The pearls were gifted to Queen Elizabeth during her first state visit to Japan in 1975, which was then constructed into a necklace by court jeweller Garrard. Each side includes three rows of diamonds that join at the top and bottom with marquise diamonds.
Middleton also wore a pair of drop diamond and pearl earrings that had also once belonged to her late grandmother-in-law.

Middleton also paid homage to the late Princess Diana by wearing her sapphire engagement ring which William gave to Middleton when they first became engaged.
